- The Galo Resort Hotel Calheta is located on the golden sands of Calheto beach, set against the picturesque backdrop of the lush green Madeiran mountains. This five- floor hotel features 114 air-conditioned guestrooms decorated in modern, Madeiran style with white walls and tiled floors. All open onto balconies with sea or land views, and include cable television, minibars, safes, and hair dryers. Guests can pamper themselves at the hotel's wellness centre where facilities include a fitness room, indoor pool, Finnish sauna, Turkish steam bath, massage and therapy treatment, outdoor pool, spa bath, and seawater bathing enclosure. The outdoor pool has a separate area for kids, and a bar serving cooling cocktails, or guests can head for the golden sands of Calheta Beach directly in front of the hotel, also with its own bar. The beach offers a large bathing enclosure where guests can safely swim, snorkel, or paddle around in a kayak. Also available for hire here are windsurfing boards and three catamarans. Driving Directions
- Buses run regularly from the airport terminal to Funchal town, costing around 3 EUR, and from there to destinations across Madeira. Taxis are also available to hire. Driving directions: From Funchal Airport, follow the main highway west via Rapida in the direction of Funchal. Continue past Funchal until the end of the highway near Ribeira Brava. Turn left towards the coastal road and continue on the main coastal road past the towns of Ribeira Brava, Ponta do Sol and Madalena do Mar towards Calheta. Calheta beach resort is straight ahead.
