Eger is a beautifully preserved baroque town, with a relaxed, Mediterranean feel. The city, with its glorious historical past, minarets and palaces, is a place of Turkish baths, good food and wine. The city centre is closed to traffic, making it easy to negotiate on foot. A day drive from Budapest, Hotel Korona in Eger is 125 kms away.
One of the main attractions in Eger is the Hotel Korona's 200-year-old Stephen cellar and National Wine Museum, which was built between 1789 and 1799. The museum offers more than 100 different wines from 22 Hungarian wine regions and exhibits ancient winemaking techniques. The cellar can accommodate up to 200 people, and often is used to host wine tastings, wine-maker dinners and lively entertainment with gypsy music. Hungarian cuisine is another highlight of Hotel Korona. During the winter, meals are served in the hotel's restaurant, while in the summer, dining is available on the terrace.
The 40-room hotel provides double rooms, king-size bedrooms, triple bedrooms or family apartments. All rooms are equipped with bathroom, television, minibar and IDD telephone with wake-up system. Non-smoking and air-conditioned rooms are offered on request.
